How Much Is Car Insurance for a Teen Driver?

Teen driver car insurance starts as low as $87 a month. Prices vary with the teen’s age, driving record, the car they drive, your ZIP code and the coverage you choose.

New drivers cost more to insure because they have no driving history. We work with dozens of insurance companies and compare them to find the best price for your family.

Add Them to Your Policy or Get Their Own?

Adding a teen to a parent’s policy is usually the cheaper option. A teen who owns a car, or has had tickets or an accident, may do better with a separate policy.

We can quote both ways so you can compare.

Everyone in your home who has a license and drives your cars should be listed on your policy. Leaving out a driver can cause a claim to be denied.

    California Rules for New Drivers

For the first 12 months, a driver under 18 can’t drive between 11 p.m. and 5 a.m., and can’t drive passengers under 20 unless a licensed adult 25 or older is in the car. There are exceptions for school, work and medical needs.

A clean record in these first years keeps the rate coming down as your teen gains experience.
